Q - If we hold a WI walk should we have a registered first aider with us and a first aid kit?

A - There is no specific guidance from NFWI about walking groups; however, a first aid kit should always be available at any WI event. Although it is not necessary to have a trained first aider present on a walk please bear in mind that for members to be covered by WI insurance, a risk assessment must be completed before each event and it is good practice for the leader to have a contact number provided by each attendee in case of emergency.

If you want to find more suggestions the u3a have produced a 5-page document on the subject, but we cannot promise we have read it https://u3asites.org.uk/files/c/croxleygreen/docs/safetyonu3awalks.pdf?fbclid=IwAR0e2Hql3LPQVA_6RntuuM3ABOi-9MnwYQAPYeEsng0QQwmXJ1pkNSpVDJ0)

Q-Why Jerusalem and must we sing it?
A-Jerusalem was sung by the WI for the first time at the eighth NFWI Annual General Meeting in 1924 having been suggested by Grace Hadow (NFWI Vice-Chairman) as an anthem for the WI. It had previously been adopted as a hymn for the women's suffrage movement. Many of those women went on to join the WI. The copyright of Jerusalem was assigned to the WI in 1928 until it entered the public domain in 1968.

Jerusalem is not obligatory at WI meetings it is up to each WI to decide whether the members wish to sing it or not.
